DHA Prometric Exam for Nurses: Format & What to Expect

This guide covers the logistics of the DHA exam: how it is delivered, what the test-centre day actually looks like, and what you walk out with. It does not teach exam content.

Most pages on this topic are written from recalled candidate experience. They do not need to be. DHA's Manual for Professional Assessment (Oral/CBT) gives the Prometric computer-based test a chapter of its own, and its section 7.2 is a numbered list of exactly these rules — arrival time, the check-in search, which cards Prometric accepts, the reschedule cut-off, and who releases your result. It is free. Everything below is cited to it, so you can check us against the source rather than take our word for it.

The format: computer-based, multiple choice

The DHA exam is a computer-based test (CBT). The manual states plainly that the CBT “is conducted in collaboration with outsourced provider (Prometric)” — Prometric is the delivery vendor, not the examiner. It is a multiple-choice question (MCQ) exam: you read a question on screen and select an answer.

• You sit it at an authorised Prometric test centre, on a provided computer — you do not bring or use your own device.
• The interface is Prometric's standard testing platform, which generally lets you move between questions and flag items for review. DHA does not document this, so treat it as vendor behaviour rather than a guarantee.

On question count, duration and pass score: these are not secret and you do not need to buy them. DHA publishes them per licensed title in the CBT assessment guidelineon Sheryan — the manual itself points there (clause 7.2.12), while warning that the guide “may not include the updated details of new or recently republished CBT exams”. We deliberately do not reprint those numbers here, because they are revised without notice. The syllabus guide shows what the current edition lists for each nursing title and where to download it.

Before you can book: the Eligibility ID

You cannot schedule the exam whenever you like. Per clause 7.2.2, Sheryan allocates you an Eligibility ID after you apply and create an account, and that ID is required to complete the Prometric online scheduling process. No Eligibility ID, no booking. Then:

• You book through prometric.com/DHA — the manual names this exact site (clause 7.2.3).
• Payment is electronic and by credit card. Clause 7.2.4 lists the accepted methods as American Express, MasterCard and Visa credit cards. If you only hold a debit card, sort this out before exam day rather than at the booking screen.
• There are no fixed nationwide exam dates— you choose from available slots. Prometric operates centres in many countries, so you can usually sit the exam at home rather than travelling to Dubai. Check current active centres on Prometric's site.

Test day: arrival and the check-in search

Arrive 30 minutes before your appointment time.This is not centre folklore — clause 7.2.5 sets it: arrival “shall be 30 minutes before the scheduled appointment time to allow for check-in procedure”.

That check-in is more physical than most candidates expect. Clause 7.2.6 requires Prometric staff to positively identify you, and spells out what that involves:

• You will be asked to show your arms and ankles and to empty your pockets.
• You will be scanned with a handheld metal detector before entering the testing room.
• Image capture is completed from the same position. If you wear a mask you will be asked to lower or remove it momentarily by the sides or strap, then refit it the same way.
• You are required to use hand sanitiser before touching any fingerprint scanner.

Your valid passportis the document that gets you in (clause 7.2.10), and its details must match your registration. Personal items — phone, bag, notes, watch, electronics — go into a locker outside the exam room under Prometric's own test centre regulations; you cannot take them to your seat. Centres typically provide erasable boards or paper for rough working rather than letting you bring your own.

None of this is adversarial. Staff run the same script all day; arriving early with your passport in hand makes it quick.

Rescheduling, cancelling and no-shows

Rescheduling is allowed, but the window is tighter than people assume and the money is gone either way:

• Five calendar days.Clause 7.2.7 states that rescheduling or cancelling the DHA Prometric exam “should be conducted five calendar days prior to the exam date”. Note calendar, not working days — the five-working-day figure that circulates online is the manual's rule for the oral assessment (clause 5.3), which is a different exam. Count calendar days and do not let a weekend eat your cut-off.
• Do it on Prometric's site, where the reschedule/cancel option lives (7.2.8), and expect a centre-specific charge for changing the appointment (7.2.9).
• Nothing is refundable.Clause 4.24 is blunt: “Exam fees are non-refundable; this includes re-scheduling, cancellation and/or no show up.”

What you walk out with — and what it is not

This is the most misunderstood part of the day, and the manual settles it. You will receive a document from Prometric after the exam. It is not your result.

• The Learning Outcome letter.Clause 7.2.13: following the exam you receive a Learning Outcome letter from Prometric identifying general strengths and weaknesses, “but does not indicate the exam result”. Almost nobody mentions this letter, and it is the only diagnostic feedback the process will ever hand you. Keep it — if you have to sit again, it is the best single input to your retake plan.
• Only DHA issues pass or fail, through Sheryan.Clause 7.2.14: the result “will be issued only by DHA through Sheryan system” and is uploaded electronically within 2 working days. Nothing you are told or handed at the test centre is your result.
• You get no score.Clause 4.6: you are notified of the result — PASS or FAIL — and “no further details (such as the score or review of topics) will be provided”. DHA calculates the outcome from the number of correct answers weighted by domain (7.2.13), and those weightings are not published. A near-miss and a heavy fail look identical in Sheryan.
• Result questions go to DHA, not Prometric. Clause 7.2.17 directs CBT result enquiries to DHA at info@dha.gov.ae. Chasing the test centre will not move anything.

The bottom line

Logistically, the DHA exam is a Prometric computer-based MCQ test with rules DHA has already written down: get your Eligibility ID from Sheryan first, fix your name before you schedule, pay by credit card, arrive 30 minutes early, expect to show arms and ankles and be scanned with a metal detector, reschedule at least five calendar days ahead knowing the fee is gone regardless, raise any technical fault at the centre on the day, and understand that the letter Prometric hands you is not your result — DHA releases pass or fail through Sheryan within two working days, with no score.
